Angling Between Bridges

"Angling Between the Bridges"
12"x18" watercolor on 140# Arches paper

This painting will be shown at Faustina Gallery during
the annual Lewisburg Arts Festival, April 2016.
This is just across the Susquehanna river from Lewisburg.
I have no idea who the fishermen are.  The train bridge will
someday be part of the local bike path/trail.
The shrubbery around the bridge has been cleared for the trail,
so the view is no longer the same.

"Pride of the Susquehanna"

"Pride of the Susquehanna"
8"x10"
Watercolor on 300lb. Cold pressed paper

Plein Air Camp Hill.
This is my submission for the week long competition.   There was some heavy rain on Wednesday. (Not good for watercolors). I painted the riverboat Thursday morning.  There were some big puddles left that I wanted to take advantage of.  This is on City Island, Harrisburg, PA.
Later this morning I will be competing in the Quick Draw event.  I'm still trying to decide what to paint for that!

"Ice on the Susquehanna", near The Fence

"Ice on the Susquehanna"

5"x7" watercolor on 140# cold pressed paper
Fabriano Artistico Extra white 100% cotton

I stopped on my way home today at the Fence.
(local riverfront eatery with carhop service, open summers only).
I got a few pictures of the river with a good bit of ice still on it.
I scared some geese and ducks, but a few came back before I left.

"Ready to FIsh", Susquehanna RIver

"Ready to Fish"
Available

5"x7" watercolor on 140# hot pressed paper
Fabriano Artistico Natural white 100% cotton

Snapped this reference photo last year on the Susquehanna River
somewhere south of Lewisburg.
These guys seemed to be in a hurry to get to their favorite fishing spot.

The ice on the river is really breaking up now.  It is making me think of summer activities.

Soldiers' Park, Lewisburg PA

"Soldiers' Park"
Sold

7"x5" watercolor on 140# coldpressed paper
Fabriano Artistico Extra white 100% cotton

I went out today to get a picture of the ice melting on the river.
The shadows in the park seemed to be a better subject.
The river is behind me in this painting.

I took my painting kit and camera, but only used the camera.
The sunlight and snow glare were killer.

I look left to see this train bridge when I am coming home from Sunbury.

High Waters by Jane Albin

"High Waters"
(Sold)
5"x7" Original Watercolor on 140# cold press paper

Today another Susquehanna River painting from a photo I took last spring.  This is from the St. Louis Street bridge.  It has been so humid and hot I have been hiding indoors.  Today, I went out to get the name of the garden I stood in last spring for yesterday's painting.  It is only four short blocks, not city blocks, away and I was dripping.
I wanted to do a summer plein air version but changed my mind....because of
the tiny snake that scared the crap out of me.

The garden plaque with the little snake in the lower left corner.

Big snake skin on the steps down to the water.
This and the poison ivy kept me up on the river bank.

Here is the view I might have painted from had the humidity been just a bit lower.
Yes I know...excuses , excuses.

This is from a photo I took last Spring.  The green sprouts were trying to find the light.  It was a cold overcast morning.  This is the Market Street bridge crossing the west branch of the Susquehanna River at Lewisburg.

Lewisburg, PA

"Lewisburg Across the Bridge"
(Original Sold - prints available)
10"x8" Watercolor on 140#Arches
Love this view of town from May's Restaurant on the east side of the Susquehanna River.
You can get an ice cream cone from here, too.  Some day I will have to do a picture of May's.
